Perps fees, explained

What Polymarket Perps cost: taker and maker fees by volume tier, funding, and how perps fees compare with prediction-market fees.

Updated October 24, 2026, 02:31 PM ET.

The fee schedule

Perps trading fees start at 0.04% taker / 0.0125% maker at standard volume and step down for very large traders, reaching 0.02% taker with a 0.005% maker rebate above $1 billion in rolling 30-day volume. Fees are charged on notional value: a $10,000 market order at the entry tier costs about $4 in taker fees.

The second cost: funding

Every hour, the funding rate transfers payments between longs and shorts. If you hold the crowded side, funding is a running cost on top of trading fees — at the ±4% hourly cap it can dwarf the entry fee within a day. See funding rates explained.

Versus prediction markets

Prediction-market taker fees vary by category (crypto is the most expensive at a 0.07 rate in the fee formula; makers pay $0). Perps fees are a flat percentage of notional regardless of contract. Which is cheaper depends on size and holding period — perps win on quick directional trades, event contracts win when you want defined $1-or-$0 risk. ⚠️ Not financial advice: odds swing hard on news. Never bet money you can't afford to lose, and always read a market's resolution rules before trading.
