How to trade perps

A beginner's walkthrough of Polymarket Perps: account, deposit, choosing a contract, long vs short, leverage, and closing a position.

Updated October 24, 2026, 02:31 PM ET.

Step 1: Check availability

Perps are unavailable in the US, Canada and several other jurisdictions. If you can use Polymarket's main platform from where you live, check the perps grid loads for you.

Step 2: Fund one balance

Perps margin is held in pUSD and the same account balance serves prediction markets and perps. Deposit as you would for the main platform (see the deposit guide).

Step 3: Pick a contract and a side

Open the perps hub list, choose a contract you understand, and decide: Long (profit if it rises) or Short (profit if it falls). Set leverage deliberately — the slider is not a difficulty setting, it is a loss multiplier.

Step 4: Mind funding and exit

Check the hourly funding rate, decide your exit price before entering, and remember a market order pays taker fees while a resting limit order pays the lower maker rate. Close from the positions panel at any time — perps never expire, but your margin is finite.

Availability: Polymarket Perps is not available in the United States or Canada and several other jurisdictions. US users are directed to the regulated Polymarket US product. Check availability where you live before depositing.
⚠️ Not financial advice: odds swing hard on news. Never bet money you can't afford to lose, and always read a market's resolution rules before trading.

One balance for prediction markets and perps. Check the live contract, start at low leverage, and size small while you learn.
